Saxony Farm is a small operation located in the beautiful horse oriented town of Hollis, NH and home to Ron and Leslie Peik and their 5 children spanning in age from 7 to 17.
Initially our intention as Saxony Farm was to import and sell Hanoverian horses but those plans quickly changed when our wonderful young stallion, Donnersohn, who we imported as a lanky yearling, grew up and surprised us all by getting licensed by the American Hanoverian Society for breeding in 2003. We quickly realized that getting him trained and ready for the 100 day test and then learning the ropes as new stallion owners we would have little time (or money!) left for importing and selling horses. Our focus then changed to stallion ownership, promotion and showing. Donnersohn is now in training with Doris Carlson of Morning Light Farm of Brimfield, MA.
Our little farm is now home to just our daughters’ horses:
Felix, owned by our oldest daughter, Kristen (17) is a 16.2 hand Dutch Warmblood gelding. Felix is a former International, Four-In-Hand driving horse and competed all over Europe in that capacity. He was then imported to the US and the team was disbanded. He then had a career as a jumper and then as a dressage horse. He is now Kristen’s best friend, constant companion, schoolmaster and a joy to our whole family. Kristen has learned so much from this kind, gentle horse and we feel truly blessed to have him in our family. Kristen is also now the proud owner of Icon, a 16.3 hand Dutch Warmblood gelding. Icon was trained and competed to Prix St George and is now teaching Kristen the fine art of upper level dressage.
Donnerwind (aka, Windi) is a 5 year old, 15 hand Hanoverian/Arab cross. He is the first foal sired by Donnersohn and is out of our wonderful Arabian mare, Breezi Lady. He is owned by our daughter Katie (15) and she likes to call him “her little sports car”. He is an incredibly talented little horse that Katie has high hopes for. Although he is small in size he has a personality that is quite a bit bigger. He keeps us entertained with his crazy antics out in the paddock, chasing balls, tarps, grain bags and anything else he can get his teeth on. Life is just one big party to Windi.
Our other horses, Breezi Lady and Patriot are now leased by friends and neighbors.
The other members of our family include:
Dad, Ron; Mom, Leslie;
Stephen who is 10 and in the fourth grade. His interests include Cub Scouts, baseball, basketball and any project that Dad or Pop Pop are working on at any given moment.
Alex who is 7 and in the First grade. He is active on a swim team and enjoys legos and science.
Teresa is 7 and in the First grade. She enjoys playing with her American Girl Dolls, being a princess and riding "when its summer". ☺
