DonnersohnDonnersohn is a seven-year-old, 16.3-hand, licensed Hanoverian Stallion. He was bred by Christy Horton and raised on the farm of Joerg Clasen in Hiddesdorf, Germany, near Verden. He was one of the last offspring of the legendary Donnerhall before his untimely death in 2002 and is out of an outstanding mare, SPS Angelina by Archipel. He is a breathtaking mover with wonderful suspension and elasticity taking the best from both of his parents. He also possesses the kind temperament for which the Donnerhall offspring are known. Donnersohn was initially trained and presented for licensing by Bob Orton of Gladys, VA. Donnersohn successfully completed the 100 day test in 2004 and returned to New England to begin his career as a breeding stallion and a performance horse. Upon his return to New England his training was taken over by his half owner and Leslie’s sister, Theresa Hazelrigg. Theresa did a fabulous job bringing him back to work after some serious setbacks brought on by the 100 day test. She worked with him with infinite patience making sure that his basics were solidified before pushing him on. She worked closely with Kathy Connelly who had high praise for Donnersohn calling him a horse “with a million dollar mind”. Theresa also worked with Kathy’s assistant Leslie DeGrandmaison who patiently worked to help get Donnersohn through and in front of the leg again. Both Kathy and Leslie were invaluable in getting Donnersohn back on the right track. Early in 2006 Theresa realized that due to job and personal constraints she was just not going to be able to find the time that she would need to get Donnersohn competition ready. Although they were a great team and Theresa enjoyed riding her “once in a lifetime” horse we made the somewhat difficult decision to find another rider for Donnersohn. That rider is Doris Carlson. Doris is not only a talented and accomplished rider having received her USDF Bronze and Silver medals she is also an incredibly wonderful person and we are so incredibly happy with this partnership. She had taken on Donnersohn and treats him as one of her own horses. The hardest part of letting him leave Saxony Farm was making sure he would have the same quality of life that were able to give him and that he could live life as a regular horse. Doris has made sure that his life continues to be as good as ever for him and for that we are eternally grateful.
